CAOUS PhD graduate wins Bragg Gold Medal

Dr. Eva Kuhnle, a recent PhD graduate from our Centre, has been awarded the 2012 Bragg Gold Medal for Excellence in Physics from the Australian Institute of Physics. The medal is awarded annually for the most outstanding PhD thesis in physics in Australia. This makes it a highly competitive award involving a rigorous selection process. It has become a very prestigious award since its inception in 1992, with a most impressive list of winners. This is only the third time that the award has gone outside the Group of Eight universities.

Eva was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Chris Vale, who was recently awarded an ARC Future Fellowship, and the award is a wonderful recognition of the quality of the work of that group.

The title of Eva's thesis was "Studies of Universality in Strongly Interacting ⁶Li Fermi Gases with Bragg Spectroscopy".

Eva is currently working as a postdoc at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. She will be presented with her award at the Austrlian Institute of Physics Congress in December.
